“Earth's
Wild Ride” is the first major production
of the Immersive Earth Project, part of the
NASA REASoN program and a member of the ESIP
Federation.
In
prerelease at the Houston Museum of Natural Science since March, 2005, it is
now showing widely in fixed dome planetariums around the country and in our
new portable digital theaters.
What would it be like
to live on a lunar space colony in
2081 and not be able to go to Earth, the beautiful blue marble that shines
outside your window? A
grandfather explains to his granddaughter and grandson the things that make
Earth unique while the family watches the Moon's shadow crossing the Earth. Be surrounded by an amazing “ride” that teaches about Earth in a
fun way!
(Please note: this movie is designed to play using a fisheye projector projecting up onto the inside of a dome. You can get a feeling for this by projecting using a standard projector into a white bowl, and imagine yourself in the center. The truncated circle is a polar view, with the perimeter being the horizon and the center the zenith. Front center is the bottom of the frame; the left horizon is at the left edge and the right horizon is at the right edge. The back is at the top, but the top of the circle (the very back) is cut off because in our portable systems, we don't project into the back of the dome, where the doorway is. For high-resolution or multiple-projector systems, we do fill the dome! |
