Sea surface height anomaly measurements

This image shows the recent deviation from normal of the surface height of Earth's oceans. Purple and blue areas indicate areas where the water is lower than normal, while orange and red areas signify where the surface is higher than normal. Sea surface height can vary because of differences in water temperature or changes in the atmospheric air pressure above the water. The data used to create this image was collected by the TOPEX/Poseidon satellite.
