Global sea surface temperature

This image shows the current temperature of the surface water of the Earth's oceans and seas. Purple and blue areas indicate colder waters, while orange and red areas are warmer. Notice how the warmer waters usually occur near the equator, where the sunlight is most intense. Sea surface temperature has significant effects on things like the weather and ocean productivity.
