A movie of the 1997-1998 El Niño
| Above is a movie showing the 97-98 El Niño event. The El Niño is visible in measurements of sea surface height. The areas where the sea surface height is higher than normal are colored red and white. The areas where it is lower than normal are colored blue and purple. Notice the build-up of water in the eastern Pacific, along the west coast of South America. This is the region of warm water that is the El Niño. |
