"Earth Picture of the Day"

This is the Mendenhall Glacier, which is located near Juneau, Alaska. The glacier is 12 miles long and as wide as 1 1/2 miles in some places. The glacier ends in a canal from the Pacific Ocean, allowing icebergs to break off and float away. This picture one of many displayed at the Earth Science Picture of the Day website, where a variety of earth science topics are shown. (Explore the link in the "more info" button)
