Understanding the food web is important to realizing how the ecosystem operates and how this system provides food for humans as well. At the base of this web are plankton , plants, and small insects which serve as food for many types of fish. These fish become food to predator fish. At the top of this web are humans that consume a variety of fish. This movie examines how the available food resources in the Amazon River basin are shared among the various fish in a web of food gathering behaviors and needs.
