Comparing logged and unlogged forests
|
Forests are used for many different purposes, including recreation, logging, and wildlife habitat. Just west of Yellowstone, in the Targhee National Forest, clearcutting of trees for lumber and paper pulp is permitted. The clearcuts leave a patchwork quilt of harvested areas separated by strips of forest. No logging is allowed in Yellowstone National Park. Compare the left side of the image above to the right side. Can you find the boundary of Yellowstone National Park?
