Last month's precipitable water vapor

This image shows the average precipitable water vapor over the Earth's oceans during the past month. It is measured in millimeters, which would be the depth of the water if it were condensed completely out of the atmosphere. The water vapor image was created using data from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I). This is one of the instruments on a Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellite.
