Sample hurricane tracking chart
| If a Hurricane is spotted in (or approaching) the Gulf of Mexico, hurricane positions will be given in Latitude and Longitude coordinates. (See the "Latest Images" folder for a graphic with the current positions and estimated track for any hurricanes). You can take these positions and plot them on a chart such as this. The latitude scale is shown on the right and goes from 9 degrees North (on the bottom) to 48 degrees North (at the top). The WEST longitude scale (usually shown as negative numbers on most maps) is on the bottom, going from 45W on the right to 105W on the left. Other maps will show 105W as 360 - 105 = 255E and 45W as 360 - 45 = 315E. |
