This image shows recent measurements of the amount of precipitable water in the air throughout the world. It uses the AVHRR, which is measured by satellite. The PWI represents the column density of water in the air. In the image, areas with large amounts of water are colored blue, while areas with little or no water in the air are colored brown. Rainfall is only likely from the blue areas.
